List of Common Terms within the Community

Sometimes, our terms and definitions can be confusing, especially for the curious individual who falls down the rabbit hole of our strange little subculture.

I hope that this following list of common terms may help you to understand current and future written content on this site and beyond. This list is subject to change, be added to, or edited.


Otherkin
The belief that human beings can be born with non-human souls, past-life memories, or mindsets. Otherkin vary from Therianthropes in that they tend to believe they are beings of mythology; dragons, fairies, phoenix, kitsune, etc.

Therianthropy, Therians
The belief that human beings can be born with non-human souls, past-life memories, or have mindsets that of physical earth-origin animals. Common theriotypes include; wolf, big cats, ungulates (deer, elk), equine, sharks and whales, and so on. There also seems to be an increase of prehistoric-therians, or those who identify with dinosaur species.

Shift, Shapeshift
A change of mental mindset between a balanced, conscious state of mind to another identity, be it an animal-side or otherwise. Visit Shifting Types from Wikia.com for more information.

Vampire, Vampirism
A condition where it is believed that a collection of symptoms are controlled and/or alleviated by, either the practice of draining psychic energy/prana/life-force, or the ingestion of physical blood (animal and/or human). Origin and personal hypotheses vary between individuals.

Sang, Sanguinarian, Blood Vampire
An individual who requires the ingestion of physical blood in order to maintain a state of health, severity varies.

Psi-Vampire, Energy/Pranic Feeder
A self-identified vampire who feeds on metaphysical energy. Psi-vampires may also feed on blood, saying that they can take the energy from this substance on a metaphysical level.

Psychic Vampire
A term to describe either a vampire who is psychic/can use psychic abilities, or a self-identified vampire who feeds on a sort of non-physical metaphysical life force. Psychic Vampires may also feed on blood, saying that they can take the energy from this substance on a metaphysical level.

NVP, Non-Vampiric Person
May describe a non-vampire, Otherkin, Therian, or even a blood-drinker without an inherent need to sustain their health.

Blood-Fetishist
One who specifically practices blood-drinking for sexual, emotional, or spiritual reasons.

Universal Feeder
Self-Identified Vampire who can feed on both physical and non-physical sources.

Blood-bond
A strong bond that can form between vampire and donor, more specific to blood donations.

Donor, Source
A source of blood donations. This could be a willing, human donor, or a butcher/ farm owner.

Black Swan
A term that includes not only donors, but lovers, friends, and family of an individual with vampirism, but do not have the condition themselves.

White Swan
A term typically means to describe an individual who opposes the VC/OVC.
